Shock for referee as he is tackled during Olympic rugby match

By Timesport

PARIS: A referee was tackled by mistake during an Olympic men's rugby sevens match between Kenya and Uruguay on Friday.

The incident happened in the second half of the 9th-12th placing match just before Kenya's Samuel Asati scored a try.

Asati picked up the ball and started sprinting towards the opponents' zone as Uruguay player Mateo Vinals tried to tackle him to the ground.

However, Portuguese referee Paulo Duarte found himself between both players, and was taken down instead by Vinals.

Kenya defeated Uruguay 19-14. Both teams had finished at the bottom of their groups.

Kenya will next face Samoa in the 9th-10th classification match today while Uruguay will play Japan to avoid being the wooden spoonists at the Paris Olympics.
