Speed demon Azeem to run race of his life on Saturday

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's fastest man, Azeem Fahmi's date with Olympic destiny is this weekend.

The 20-year-old Perakian will compete in the men's 100m preliminary rounds on Saturday (Aug 3) at 10.15am.

"I'm looking forward to running on the purple-colour track at Stade de France," said Olympic debutant Azeem who holds the national 100m record of 10.09s.

Azeem will know on Friday his draw for the 100m preliminary rounds (PRs).

The Asian Games bronze medallist will be among 16 athletes competing in the five PRs. The top two athletes in each PR plus the next six fastest runners qualify for the heats.

A total of 72 sprinters will compete in eight heats in nine lanes for semi-final places.
