South Sudanese sprinter collapses in 100m heat

PARIS: South Sudanese sprinter Lucia Moris's bid to win her country's first gold medal came to a heartbreaking end when she was carried off the track after sustaining an injury during the women's 100-metre heats.

Moris, 23, began the race strongly but lost her balance and fell with just 30 meters remaining. Medical teams swiftly came to her aid after the race ended, and she was carried off the track a few minutes later.

Congo's Natacha Ngoye emerged as the heat's winner, clocking 11.34 seconds.

This was Moris's second appearance at the Olympics.

She competed in Tokyo three years ago, where she also served as the flag bearer for South Sudan.

Since making its Olympic debut in Rio eight years ago, South Sudan has yet to secure a medal.
