KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's fastest man Azeem Fahmi warmed up for the heats by finishing second in the preliminary round at the Paris Olympics on Saturday.
Running in lane 3 at Stade de France, Azeem sprinted to the finish line in 10.42 seconds, 0.01s ahead of Singapore's Marc Brian Louis, who finished third.
Ebrahim Camara of Gambia won the preliminary round with a time of 10.31s.
Azeem was fortunate, as only the top two from each of the six preliminary heats qualify for the main heats. However, Azeem, who was well off his national record of 10.09, must improve in the heats to progress.
The heats are set to begin at 5.55pm Malaysian time.
