Hosts Sarawak take two taekwondo gold

KUCHING: Sarawak sent a clear message of their dominance in combat sports by securing two gold medals on the opening day of the taekwondo competition at the Malaysia Games (Sukma) today.

At the Stadium Perpaduan Petra Jaya, the trio of Fedealis Kom Twin, Isshahril Mazlan and Randy Owen Augustine Linggi delivered a stunning performance in the poomsae event, impressing the judges and earning the highest score of 8.01 points.

The home representatives, competing together for the first time, received strong support from the crowd, which helped them to deliver a scintillating display.

The Federal Territories team, comprising Chee Bo Qin, Dixon Loh and Tan Vee Liam, had to settle for second place with a score of 7.65, while Perak's Choong Jian Xian, Choe Ming Feng, and Riky Chong took bronze with 7.35.

Meanwhile, the host state's women's team also contributed a gold medal through the trio of Farah Nabilla Maddarus, Siti Yusriyyah Zailani and Willemien Lai Lin, scoring 7.70.

The Johor team, consisting of Ling Lau You, Lim Xin Zi, and Yong Si Ting, won silver with 7.54, followed by the Penang team of Yow Mei Xin, Loh Wai Yee, and Soo Wei Shan, who bagged bronze with 7.29
