Lavinia-Nur Hazirah strike Sukma gold again

KUCHING: The chemistry between Lavinia Kho and Nur Hazirah Ramli brought home the Malaysia Games (Sukma) women's doubles gold medal for the host state at Sarawak Megalanes Emart in Batu Kawa on Friday.

The duo successfully defended their gold medal from the 2022 Kuala Lumpur editio , and Lavinia credited her partner's support for the win.

"We have good chemistry. When I'm playing badly, Nur Hazirah supports me, and when she's not playing well, I motivate her to do better.

"We push each other to do our best, and teamwork is what won us gold.

"Next, I will compete in the mixed doubles, trio, and team events. I want to add more gold medals to Sarawak's tally. We also want to defend our title in the team event," said the 19-year-old.

This is Nur Hazirah's third consecutive gold medal in doubles, having first won it at Sukma 2018 in Perak with Gillian Lim.

The 21-year-old said there's no secret to her consistency; she simply focuses on what she can control.

"I just focus on my game and try to always be ready for anything. I make sure I give my best always," said Nur Hazirah, who is also making her final Sukma appearance.

The bowler has won two titles, including the women's singles, here and six overall.

She will have an opportunity to add more gold to her trophy cabinet when she partners Fan Yew Tsen in the mixed doubles today.
