KUCHING: Despite battling a tendon injury on her right shoulder, Sayyeda Khadeeja Anis Fadhli showed remarkable grit to clinch two gold medals for Pahang in the women's 25m air pistol individual and team events at the Malaysia Games (Sukma) today.
The 19-year-old sharpshooter displayed strong determination, securing gold with 16 points by outshooting the home favourites in the final at the Sarawak Shooting Range here.
Leticia Jia Yi from Sarawak claimed silver with 15 points, while compatriot Intan Nurirdina Faqihah Azhar got the bronze with 14.
"I've had this nagging injury since March, a torn tendon… although I'm in recovery, training has to continue. As athletes, injuries can strike at any time.
"My hand shook slightly on the fourth and fifth shots, so in situations like this, mental preparation is key. The support from my team helped me push through the pain and focus solely on winning," she told Bernama.
Hailing from Kuala Lipis, Sayyeda Khadeeja also led her teammates, Wan Nur Afiqah Wan Haneef and Intan Nurirdina Faqihah Azhar, to another gold with a total score of 1,665 points in the team event.
They outperformed Terengganu's trio of Wan Nur Anissa Wan Nazri, Nureen Aisya Azahari, and Tengku Putri Tengku Adam, who scored 1,604 points.
The bronze went to Sarawak's Leticia, Nur Izzaty Abdul Razi and Siti Nur Anniesa Danial Fikri, with a score of 1,574 points.
Pahang currently lead the shooting medal tally with seven gold, one silver and four bronze medals.– BERNAMA
