Malaysian dancers claim two gold at London Open

KUALA LUMPUR: Three talented young Malaysians dancers did the nation proud by bagging two gold medals and reaching the final in one other event at the London Open recently.

Cherry Yeo claimed gold in the adult female solo latin category while Madeleine Lau was also victorious in the youth female solo latin event.

Zurie Ooi also did well to reach the final in the adult female solo latin class.

The trio, who are under the Kuala Lumpur Dancesport Association, are coached by MY Dancesport academy coaches Chua Zjen Fong and Evon Chong.

Dancers from 25 countries competed in the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) sanctioned event.

Zjen Fong was pleased with their performances which helped boost their rankings.

"Madeleine performed brilliantly. Her elegance and technical prowess impressed the judges, contributing to the team's overall success and boosting her youth female solo Lltin ranking to World No. 4 with 1,832 points," said Zjen Fong today.

"Cherry was also outstanding, her solo performance was one of the highlights of the competition, showcasing her exceptional talent and artistry.

"As a result, her Adult Female Solo Latin ranking rose to world No. 2 with 870 points."

Cherry has been in strong form in recent seasons and won three gold at the Mallorca Dance Festival last year and one gold at the Bremen DanceSport Festival earlier this year.
