Ameeshenraj wins Western India Open

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's C. Ameeshenraj bagged the Western India Open squash title in Mumbai today.

Seeded second, he upset top seed Viktor Byrtus of the Czech Republic 15-13, 6-11, 11-5, 11-3 in the final in 60 minutes.

It was the 20-year-old Ameeshenraj's third win over Byrtus in three meetings. The Malaysian also beat him in the Liverpool Cricket Club Open final in March.

The Bristol-based Ameeshenraj, who is coached by Englishman John Welton, said that he is happy to end the year with a title in India.

Ranked 104 in the world, Ameeshenraj hopes to break into top 100 by next week.
