JAKARTA: Hotels in Jakarta have been turned into Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centres following a drastic increase in cases which has left hospitals in the province nearing full capacity.
On Sept 14, Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan said 67 hospitals in Jakarta are at over 70 per cent of usage level of equipment, beds and medical facilities, following an average daily tally of almost 1,000 cases since the end of August.
Jakarta has the highest number of cases in the republic at 72,577.
Based on official data, Indonesia today recorded 4,002 new Covid-19 cases, bringing its infection tally to 282,724, Bernama reported.
Another 132,496 patients are being monitored for the viral infection.
In the last 24 hours, the country registered 128 more fatalities, bringing its death toll to 10,601.
