JAKARTA: Over 200 kgs of marijuana that was meant to be distributed across the capital city here was intercepted by the police recently.
West Jakarta Police Chief Senior Commissioner Pasma Royce said a man was also arrested for transporting the drugs in a waste truck from Medan, Sumatra, according to Antara news.
"There were six sacks brought using a truck containing waste from Sumatra to Java," Royce said adding the shipment of marijuana weighed about 209 kg.
He said police received information about the shipment of drugs from Medan to Banten, prompting the operation last month.
Investigations revealed the suspect was offered 75 million rupiah to deliver the shipment using the truck, Royce said.
The suspect appeared to have picked up the marijuana from a warehouse on Namorambe Deli Tua Street, Medan, North Sumatra.
"He hid the marijuana packages among the pile of scrap in the truck," he said. The suspect was arrested in the Terate area, Kramat Watu, Serang, Banten, on August 21.
Preliminary investigation revealed the marijuana was to be distributed in the capital city here and its surrounding area.
