MIRI: A total of 143 cannabis plants and 1.7kg of cannabis worth about RM3.6 million were seized and two men were arrested during a raid on a house in Jalan Piasau here on Friday (Sept 13).
Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata said the raid was carried out by the Miri Narcotics Crime Investigation Division.
He said the 61-year-old suspect was the employer of the 41-year-old suspect.
He said the suspects bought cannabis seeds online from abroad and received deliveries through courier services.
"The suspects cultivated the cannabis seeds at the house. The cannabis they produced were sold in Miri for RM100 per 100g," he said at a press conference at the Miri district police headquarters today (Sept 15).
He said the cannabis seized could go to 32,084 drug users.
He said the suspects had no criminal records and tested positive for Tetra Hydro Cannabinol (THC).
The raiding team also seized a car and a motorcycle, estimated to be worth RM24,500.
Mancha said the suspects had been remanded for seven days from Sept 14 to 21.
The case is being investigated under Section 6B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for cultivating and possessing cannabis plants, which provides for life imprisonment and at least six strokes of the cane.
The suspects are also being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for trafficking cannabis, which provides for the death penalty or life imprisonment. If the death sentence is not imposed, it provides for at least 12 strokes of the cane.
