JAKARTA: The cost of performing the haj for each Indonesian pilgrim next year will be set at 56 million rupiah (RM16,940) compared to 49.8 million rupiah this year.
They only paid 60 per cent of the actual cost amounting to 93.4 million rupiah (RM28,271), while the balance was borne from the benefit value fund managed by the Haj Financial Management Agency.
The matter was set in a meeting between Commission VIII of the House of Representatives and the Ministry of Religion led by its minister, Yaqut Cholil Quomas, in the country's Parliament yesterday (Nov 27).
Yaqut explained that the cost of the haj is influenced by the exchange rate of the rupiah against the US dollar and the Saudi Arabian riyal for the payment of transport, hotels, flights, visas, insurance and pocket money.
The number of Indonesian pilgrims next year will increase to 241,000 people from 221,000 people in 2023. --BERNAMA
