KUALA LUMPUR: Two tourists were killed on Tuesday when a large tree in the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary in Ubud, Bali, fell, crushing them.
According to the management of the sanctuary, the tragedy occurred at 12.10pm local time, due to a "sudden and strong gust of wind".
Another tourist was injured in the incident.
A CNA report, quoting the Jakarta Globe, said the dead were identified as F. Justine Christine, 32, from France and Kim Hyoeun, 42, from South Korea.
A third tourist, Lee Sunni, 43, from South Korea, sustained severe injuries.
Viral social media videos show visitors in the sanctuary stopping and fleeing moments before the tree crashes to the ground.
The Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary is a nature reserve and temple complex which is home to over 1,260 macaques.
Following the incident, the sanctuary announced it would remain closed on Dec 11 and 12.
