KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Association of Sports Medicine (MASM) will host the 18th Asian Federation of Sports Medicine (AFSM) congress on April 26-28 at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) in Kota Kinabalu.
The AFSM congress will be held in conjunction with the eighth National Sports Institute (NSI) Sports Medicine and Sports Science Conference.
Among the attendees at a recent AFSM press conference were Datuk Marina Chin, NSI board chairman, Dr Tan Kah Hock, chairperson of the Olympic Council of Malaysia East Malaysia committee, NSI board member and congress advisor, Ahmad Faezal Ramli, NSI chief executive officer and congress deputy advisor, Dr Chan Kin Yuen, MASM vice president and congress organising co-chair, Dr Alston Choong, MASM vice president and congress organising chair and Dr Kiran Kandiah, MASM council member and congress organising deputy chair.
Kin Yuen, in his opening speech, emphasised the AFSM congress as a milestone in sports and exercise science and medicine in Malaysia.
The collaboration between AFSM, MASM and NSI exemplifies a unified commitment to advancing these fields.
The congress is poised to be a global platform for leading experts to share innovative ideas, research findings, and advancements in sports and exercise science and medicine.
Marina highlighted that the AFSM-NSI 2024 congress is more than a standard gathering; it is a convergence of visionaries committed to advancing sports and exercise science and medicine not only in Malaysia but also across Asia and beyond.
The three-day congress will feature over 12 insightful symposia, four interactive workshops and four informative pre-congress webinars, along with paper, poster presentations and booth exhibitions covering a wide range of topics in sports and exercise science and medicine, high-performance sports, sports management, and physical education.
Sharing their expertise will be speakers from the International Olympic Committee, International Paralympic Committee, SportAccord, World Anti-Doping Agency, UNESCO, WHO and International Federation of Sports Medicine.
