KUALA LUMPUR: Harimau Malaya forward Faisal Halim wasted no time in keeping his word to gift superfan Derrick Gan a motorcycle– the second he has received since returning from Doha, Qatar.
The 26-year-old Harimau Malaya forward together with his sponsor Blast Active officially handed over the Yamaha LC135 motorcycle to Derrick through a simple ceremony.
Through a short video on Blast Active's Instagram story, Faisal was seen handing over the motorcycle as well as saying thank you to Derrick who sold his motorcycle to pay for his trip to see Harimau Malaya in action at the Asian Cup in Qatar.
"As an ambassador for Blast, this is what I first earned from Blast, and I have bought this motorcycle for you. As a player I was touched, moved and emotional as well as seeing you cry when we played against South Korea that day. So together with Blast I had the intention to gift you a motorcycle. So this is your motorcycle," said Faisal in a short video.
It was reported yesterday that Derrick received a scooter from Enjin Nasional Sdn Bhd (Modenas) with the cooperation of a private radio station as soon as he arrived back from Doha at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
Previously, Derrick's reaction where he shed tears of joy after Harimau Malaya scored their second goal thanks to Arif Aiman's spot kick (penalty) when playing against South Korea left many feeling emotional as well after watching the national side's final Group E match.
Derrick is expected to get another motorcycle after another individual, Ahmad Alhafiz Najmi, 33, said that he wants to give Derrick a Honda RS150 motorcycle worth an estimated RM6,000.
Ahmad, a used motorcycle dealer and owner of Ahmad Motorworks, said he was touched by Derrick's efforts of making the trip to Qatar to show his support for the national team at the 2023 Asian Cup. Derrick deserves more than just praise, he added.
