Mara to issue notice to vacate if premises unused : Chairman Asyraf Wajdi

KUALA LUMPUR: Any commercial premises owned by Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) that are used for storage or remain unopened as per agreement will be issued with a two-month notice to vacate, Mara chairman Datuk Dr. Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said.

This, he said, is part of more drastic measures taken under the Mara Commercial Premises Transformation Programme that was announced recently to ensure such premises continue assisting Bumiputera entrepreneurs in generating income.

In a Facebook posting, Asyraf said that all district Mara managers nationwide have been directed by the management to carry out this operation.

"I will monitor and keep myself informed on its progress from the management through monthly council meetings.

"This transformation programme is not just about changing the appearance of Mara premises to look fresher and more progressive with the times, but also about generating the economy by providing opportunities for serious Bumiputera entrepreneurs to advance their businesses," he said in the post.

Asyraf added that he will personally monitor each Mara premises according to its capacity, considering their large number.

Earlier, it was reported that a total of 7,289 Mara commercial premises will undergo a transformation through the Mara Premises Transformation Programme.

Additionally, he directed Mara Corporation management to take immediate action on the human resources management and financial department of Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL), which reportedly did not provide satisfactory service to part-time lecturers.

"If this persists, I will ask Mara Corp management to take firm action, including restructuring the top officials of UniKL.

"Last year when I raised this issue, the response I received was satisfactory for a while. Now, it has come up again," he said.
