Bursa Malaysia closes higher on sustained buying interest in heavyweights

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia continued its upward trajectory at midday, buoyed by sustained buying activity in key heavyweights.

At 12.30pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) gained by 11.27 points or 0.71 per cent, to 1,607.95 against Friday's close of 1,596.68.

The benchmark index commenced trading 0.74 points lower at 1,595.94 and fluctuated within a range of 1,595.35 to 1,609.23 throughout the morning session. On the broader market, gainers led losers at 566 to 557, with 429 counters unchanged. 

Turnover stood at 2.76 billion units worth RM2.01 billion.

In a note today, Malacca Securities Research expects buying support to emerge within the stocks on the local front within the technology segments like the hard disk drive (HDD), hardware suppliers and cyber security.

The firm said this is given the technology sector is trending strongly in the US.

"We also believe key investment theme will revolve around the data centre, artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud services in Malaysia. "We opine that construction, property, building materials and utilities should benefit for the construction of data centre going forward," it noted.
