[UPDATED] Ministers reminded not to break electoral laws during Sg Bakap by-election

PUTRAJAYA: The cabinet has been reminded about not breaking the law during the Sungai Bakap by-election.

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the matter was stressed in today's cabinet meeting by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Fahmi said this in response to whether the government had come out with a guideline for parties in government to deal with announcements on allocations during campaigning.

This came after Engage chairman and former Bersih chairman Thomas Fann said a guideline should be established following an announcement by the Housing and Local Government Ministry on an RM18 million allocation for projects in South Seberang Perai, Penang.

"We did not discuss it specifically, but the prime minister has reminded cabinet members to ensure that during this by-election period, there are no violations of electoral laws."

The government, through the Housing and Local Government Ministry, yesterday announced an RM18 million allocation for projects and non-Muslim houses of worship in Seberang Prai, Penang.

Polling day is on July 6.
