Sarawak educationist Prof Shahren Ahmad dies at 63

KUCHING: The passing of the Vice Chancellor of i-CATS University College Professor Dr Shahren Ahmad Zaidi Adruce is a great loss to the education sector in Sarawak.

Shahren, who celebrated his 63rd birthday three days ago, passed away at Sarawak General Hospital (HUS) this morning.

Women, Family, and Community Development minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the deceased, who was also her close friend, contributed greatly to human development, especially through education.

"He had also provided many ideas and solutions on matters related to the economy, education, religion, culture, family, and youth.

"The deceased was a friend who always helped in any situation, regardless of fatigue," she said in a statement today.

The deceased, who was also the son of the fifth Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak, Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce, suffered a stroke last Monday.

Sharen, who previously held the position of Deputy Vice Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), breathed his last at 7.10am today, and his body was brought to Lorong Kedandi 11a, Tabuan Jaya, here.

The body will be taken to Masjid Jamek Negeri Sarawak and, after Friday prayers, will be buried at Samariang Cemetery.
