Motorcyclist killed, one injured after being hit by suspected drunk driver

HULU SELANGOR: A motorcyclist was killed and another injured after being hit by a suspected drunk driver on Jalan Kuala Lumpur-Ipoh near Batang Kali at 6:58pm yesterday.

Hulu Selangor district police chief Superintendent Ahmad Faizal Tahrim said initial investigations revealed that a 54-year-old man driving a Perodua Bezza from Rawang to Ulu Yam Bharu attempted to overtake the vehicle in front of him.

"However, the driver collided with two motorcycles coming from the opposite direction.

"The accident resulted in the death of a 57-year-old Yamaha Lagenda 115Z rider at the scene, while a 53-year-old Honda RS rider was taken to the red zone of Selayang Hospital for further treatment," he said in a statement today.

Ahmad Faizal said the driver admitted to drinking a bottle of beer, but police are still awaiting toxicology reports to confirm the suspect's blood alcohol level.

He added that the suspect has been remanded for three days until July 3, and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act (RTA) 1987.
