Police identify Tesla driver who allegedly sideswiped motorcyclist on Sprint Highway [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: A driver who had allegedly sideswiped a motorcyclist in a video that went viral, has been identified by traffic police.

Kuala Lumpur deputy Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department chief Superintendent Suffian Abdullah said the incident occurred along the Sprint Highway, heading towards Petaling Jaya.

The incident, he said, occurred on May 13, and involved a Yamaha 135LC motorcycle, and a red Tesla Model 3.

He said the motorcyclist, a 25-year-old male employed in the private sector, was travelling along the highway, before the Tesla, driven by a 37-year-old salesman, switched lanes, causing the motorcyclist to be pinned on the left side of the road.

The motorcyclist struck the Tesla's left side mirror with his hand, and the car driver then appeared to sideswipe the motorcyclist, causing him to lose control and fall, he said.

The incident was caught on the rear-view camera of a vehicle that was in front of the Tesla and the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist suffered injuries to his hands, knees, and feet.

Police are investigating the incident, and the case has been classified under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
