Minister's notes and writings on science, technology and innovation launched by PM

KUALA LUMPUR: A compilation of writings by Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak here.

Titled “Communicating Science, Trust, Integrity for Social Wellbeing”, Tangau said the book aims to increase society's awareness of how science, technology and innovation can improve the wellbeing of a community.

The book, launched during the Malaysia Commercialisation Year (MCY) 2017 here clarifies the importance of science, technology and innovation as the country's driving force in spurring the economy, he said.

"We wish to show the whole value chain of science and innovation.

"For example, the need to have talent in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), how technology can be localised, how research can lead to technological advances and how innocation can solve daily problems."

Tangau added that the writings in the books were sourced from articles published on his official blog, personal social media sites, the ministry website and a local Sabah daily.

In it contains 307 pages comprising of 43 articles, all written from February 2016 to June 2017.

The book was launched at the ministry's booth at the conference in which local talents were also celebrated for their significant contributions to the nation's economic growth towards 2050.

The awards called the MCY Awards 2017 totalled up to RM1 million, providing due recognition by the ministry to the country's best products and technologies.

The overall winners for the award was TACCOMS from Malaysia National Defense University, taking home RM230,000, a trophy and certificate. Also present were Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh and his deputy Datuk Dr Mary Yap Kain Ching.
