KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) will soon implement the use of smart metres to gauge power consumption in residential and commercial premises.
Its chairman, Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau, announced that SESB opened the tender on April 16, and closed it on June 12, inviting qualified companies to participate in the implementation.
"Currently, we are at the tender analysis stage before forwarding it to the management tender committee and then to the board's procurement and finance committee," he said.
He was responding to a call by the National Consumer Foundation of Malaysia (YPNM) Sabah chairman, David Chan, who urged SESB to use smart metres to provide real-time data on energy consumption.
This will allow consumers to monitor their usage more effectively and make informed decisions about their energy use.
Madius said the government welcomed Chan's suggestion because smart metres have various benefits and advantages compared to conventional metres.
"I would like to inform you that SESB is indeed moving in that direction and hopefully all the processes can be carried out smoothly," he said.
Madius, who is also the Tuaran member of parliament, called on consumers to download and register the mySESB application on their mobile phones.
"Through this application, various services can be enjoyed, including getting the latest bill statement and making payments directly to the SESB system without having to wait three working days as required by other payment methods.
"Users can also get current information related to maintenance in an area, channel complaints and check the status of actions, apply for a new metre, and much more," explained Madius.
He said the mySESB service is an initiative to make it easier for customers to deal with SESB without having to stand in long queues at the SESB counter or kiosk.
"To date, out of 696,711 SESB customers, only 112,835 have registered.
"We hope that more people register on mySESB so that any public affairs with SESB can be resolved more flexibly, easily, and quickly," added Madius.
