GEORGE TOWN: Penang police said criminal cases involving beach boys were isolated, and that the authorities constantly monitored activities at the beaches here.
Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Omar said regular patrols and random checks were often carried out to ensure no laws were broken.
“We have officers on patrol. We will not compromise and will take stern action against wrongdoers.
“Even so, we do not intend to point fingers at the beach boys.”
Meanwhile, a tourist from the Middle East, Shaikha Alanood Mohamad Ali, 28, said this was her second visit to Batu Ferringhi and she had no issues with the beach boys.
Her first visit was eight years ago with her family and her latest visit was with her husband and two children.
“For me, the beach boys are doing a good job and they do not force us to engage in watersports activities if we do not want to.
“In fact, they are friendly and good to my family. Some of them even remembered me from my first visit and asked how my parents were doing,” she said.
Asked if she knew of the attempted rape of a Qatari tourist last week, Shaikha said she had heard of it but knew it was an isolated incident.
