SHAH ALAM: The scenario or rather situation at the venue for tonight’s highly-anticipated Malaysia Cup final clash between Perak and Terengganu is calm and under control as of 4.30pm.
Thousands of fans of both teams have already made their way to the stadium despite the earlier downpour to create a ‘sea of colours’, with Terengganu fans decked in the team’s colours of black and white, while Perak fans are decked in their team’s colours of yellow and black.
Even though thousands of fans have already made their way to the cavernous stadium which seat close to 80,000 spectators, all is calm with no untoward incidents whatsoever happening, proving that despite the excitement and anticipation surrounding the final, there is a commendable level of discipline and sportsmanship shown by fans from both teams.
It is evident that the rivalry between both teams who played against each other in the group stage of the prestigious tournament, has not spilled over with fans from both sides taking pictures with one another and mingling around freely.
Both sets of fans have turned up at the stadium not just wearing their respective teams’ jerseys, but also sporting all sorts of different antics as well in a strong show of support for their beloved teams, such as by painting their faces, wearing colourful hats and caps, with some even wearing specially made costumes and garbs for the occasion.
Many fans came prepared knowing that it is currently the rainy season whereby it rains almost every day, so many wore all sorts of raincoats when it started raining heavily as of 2.45pm.
To keep themselves occupied with still a few hours to go before the final begins, fans at the stadium began shouting in excitement and also singing their respective state songs when they were allowed in at around 4pm by the authorities.
Terengganu last tasted success in the Malaysia Cup competition 17-years-ago when they defeated of all opponents Perak 2-1 at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil. Perak, who are seven time Malaysia Cup champions, last won a year earlier when they defeated Negri Sembilan 2-0 at this year’s venue, the Shah Alam Stadium.
