PUTRAJAYA: The government took into account various factors, especially the compatibility issue, before the reshuffling of several ministry secretaries-general was done, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said.
He said the reshuffling was done to ensure that government policies which were planned could be implemented and executed well.
"Among the factors taken into consideration were the suitability of an officer to work with their respective ministers.
"Officers can be rotated from one department to another based on their performances, whether they should be promoted or otherwise.
"Sometimes, a secretary-general may not be able to work with the minister. Therefore we need to consider all these factors," he said when asked to comment on the recent transfers and promotions of nine secretaries-general and three directors-general.
Dr Mahathir was speaking to reporters after chairing the sixth Special Cabinet Committee on Anti-Corruption (JKKMAR).
