Terengganu floods: More than 4,000 forced from homes [NSTTV]

SETIU: Continuous heavy rain and high tide have forced the evacuation of 4,094 people (from 996 families) from their homes, with Kemaman recording the highest number of evacuees in Terengganu amidst the worsening floods.

As of 4am, 3,698 people from 867 families in Kemaman had been evacuated to 25 flood relief centres; while in Dungun, 182 people from 57 families were taking shelter at four centres.

In Hulu Terengganu, 212 people from 71 families were evacuated to three relief centres; and in Setiu, two people from one family were moved to one relief centre.

State Civil Defence Force (APM) director Lt- Col (PA) Che Adam Abdul Rahman said non-stop heavy rain and high tide caused major rivers in the state to burst their banks.

"The excess rain is not following its normal course to the sea, and the stagnation in water-logged areas is worsening the impact of the floods.

"We expect this pattern to continue for a while, and agencies involved in rescue operations are on the alert to save flood victims," he said.
