Panasonic Malaysia plants hit by Covid-19

KUALA LUMPUR: Panasonic Manufacturing Malaysia Bhd says 116 employees at both of its manufacturing facilities in Shah Alam have tested positive for Covid-19.

In an exchange filing with Bursa Malaysia yesterday, the company said it had decided to close its facilities from December 21 to December 23 this year to allow the disinfection specialist to carry out its work.

"The Petaling District Health office has advised us to cease operations for the time being until further notice," it said.

Panasonic Malaysia said it had completed full screening of about 2,137 workers and employees and only 116 were found to be affected.

It said the safety and well-being of its workers and employees as well as the community was the utmost priority towards containing the situation.

"The company has and will continue to adhere to the Covid-19 preventive standard operating procedures (SOPs) on a stringent basis.

"Disinfection exercises at our manufacturing premises and workers' accommodation have been conducted regularly, with all the necessary precautionary measures strictly in place," it added.
