KUALA LUMPUR: Cypark Resources Bhd and Cove Suria Sdn Bhd together with their co-partner Kelantan Utilities Mubaarakan Holdings Sdn Bhd (KUM) have launched Malaysia's largest floating power solar plant in Danau Tok Uban, Kelantan.
Cypark and Cove Suria will install 30MW each, bringing a total of 60MWac large-scale floating solar PV in Danau Tok Uban.
Cypark said the plant would be the largest floating solar plant in Southeast Asia and second largest in Asia after China.
During the launch today, Kelantan deputy Menteri Besar and KUM chairman Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah said Danau Tok Uban was now an Aquaculture Industrial Zone (AIZ), a floating solar project integrated with the aquaculture industry.
It will also become the largest integrated solar with aquaculture tourism activity in Southeast Asia.
The floating solar plant will consist of 247,830 solar panels, capable of generating about 140,000 MWh of power per year, powering up to 46,480 households while saving about 96,600 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually.
"We see floating solar plant has great opportunity to generate power with low cost. As a leading renewable energy provider in Malaysia.
"We hope this project will set the precedent to more floating solar projects in Kelantan in the future especially with the Malaysian government's strongly declared commitment to ensure that green technology and renewable energy are part of the future economic blueprint of Malaysia," said Cypark executive chairman Tan Sri Razali Ismail.
KUM general manager Mahad Mokhtar said the project was the company's commitment to the realisation of the Kelantan State Sustainable Development Vision to improve the quality of life of the rakyat through green-based community living.
"It involves the implementation of energy-efficient features such as the use of renewable energy and green technology," he said.
The twin 30MWac Floating Solar PV was formerly located at Empangan Kelinchi and Terip in Negri Sembilan.
It was part of LSS2 project and has been relocated to Danau Tok Uban.
