Johor Week at Expo 2020 Dubai open doors for investments

KUALA LUMPUR: The Johor state government's Johor Week at Malaysia Pavilion in the 22nd week of Expo 2020 Dubai will see the state continue to open its doors for investments.

With the theme 'The Southern Jewel of Malaysia', the Johor Week running from Feb 27 to March 5.

Invest Johor chief executive Zarina Abdul Kadir said Johor is an ideal investment destination as it boasts of having high growth potential and rapid development.

Zarina said investors can leverage on both this potential and development as well as a sustainable economic ecosystem that supports investors looking to expand or establish their business in Malaysia.

"We are strategically located at the heart of the Asean region and along the world's busiest shipping routes.

"The state is also easily accessible within a six hour flight of major Asean cities through the Senai International Airport, three international ports and an array of highways.

"Johor also boasts of a well-developed ecosystem, with mature public-private partnerships and attractive fiscal incentives that continue to attract investors," she said at the launch of Johor Week at the Expo 2020 yesterday.

Meanwhile, Zarina said Johor has managed to maintain its socio-economic resilience through the strengthening of the state's overall talent ecosystem and increasing economic activities to fast-track its socio-economic recovery.

She said Johor targets to generate RM500 million new investments during the expo.

"Our presence at this World Expo has come at the right time and is testament to Johor's commitment to attract a potential trade and investment value of RM500 million for the state," she said.

The Johor Week exhibits Johor's best practices and core businesses as well as emerging industries which are mainly centred in the Iskandar Malaysia region.

Among the highlights during the opening of Johor Week were the announcement of strategic collaborations with an investment value of more than RM100 million.

Situated on the lower ground floor of the Malaysian pavilion, the Johor Week showcases investment opportunities in Johor through various programmes aiming at penetrating the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) market as well as the other 191 participating countries.

Malaysia is one of the 192 countries and organisations participating in Expo 2020 Dubai.

Themed 'Connecting Minds, Creating the Future', the expo runs from 1st October 2021 to March 31, 2022.

Johor Week is one of the 26 weekly trade and business programmes hosted by Malaysia Pavilion.
