KUALA LUMPUR: Brimedic Services Sdn Bhd has introduced the GEMS Model Screening System, marking the creation of Malaysia's first artificial intelligence (AI) enhanced, digital comprehensive child screening system designed for paediatric primary care facilities.
The model aims to improve the accuracy and efficiency of child developmental screenings.
This offers early detection of issues and equips parents with home-based stimulation activities to support developmental and learning needs after the screenings.
Brimedic Services chief executive officer Dr. Tan Gek Ling said the GEMS model reflects the company's dedication to advancing paediatric care through technology.
Tan, who is also a consultant paediatrician, added that by following global best practices, the system is expected to improve developmental outcomes for children nationwide.
Brimedics said with a million ringgit allocated for research and development since 2019, every component of the GEMS model has its own research paper, invented by Malaysian researchers and specialists of various disciplines from well-established institutions.
The GEMS model consists of of six components.
They include Spark@Grow, which is accessible via a mobile app for parents to track their child's development, especially in speech and language and available at Signature Child Specialist Clinic or any clinic that adopts GEMS model, Spark@MaMi, which guides parents in screening their child's feeding red flags and carries out intervention and Eye Tracking, which is used to detect children's eye movements and determine their social preferences.
The others are Visual Screening, which detects children's attention to learning and their learning abilities, AI Emotion which helps to identify children's achievement emotion, while conducting learning task, and AI Motion which identifies children's motor coordination difficulties, such as clumsiness and difficulty engaging in sports activities.
"Brimedic Services goes beyond and above with on-going research to ensure the specificity and sensitivity of these six components.
"Several of these components have also received ethical approval from the Ministry of Health's medical research and ethics committee," it said.
