The parametres that will be used to assess key sectors' readiness include location, investment, skills/talent, digital infrastructure, and services.

The workshop follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between MCMC and MIDA on July 4, aimed at launching programs and initiatives to help Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) leverage the 5G network across various sectors.

"Throughout the workshop, various feedback was gathered from the agencies involved."This included the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD), the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), the Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC), SIRIM Bhd, the SME Corporation Malaysia (SME Corp), Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB), telecommunications companies, and relevant industry associations," it said in a statement today.

MCMC added that the feedback gathered will be utilised to create a comprehensive assessment framework to guide the adoption of 5G technology across various industries in Malaysia, including SMEs.

MCMC regards the workshop as a significant step towards ensuring industry readiness in adapting to 5G technology. The technology has the potential to  boost productivity and efficiency in the manufacturing, services, construction, agriculture, and mining sectors.
