KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Wan Zaki Wan Muda, founder and group advisor of Ahmad Zaki Resources Berhad (AZRB), will be laid to rest this afternoon at the Bukit Kiara Muslim Cemetery after funeral prayers at the Federal Territory Mosque in Kuala Lumpur.
The prominent businessman passed away at the age of 75 on Tuesday evening, according to a statement from AZRB.
Wan Zaki began his career in public service, holding various roles in state-owned enterprises in Pahang and Terengganu, eventually becoming managing director of Pesama Timber Corporation Sdn Bhd, a Terengganu state entity.
In 1984, he shifted his focus to developing Ahmad Zaki Sdn Bhd's engineering and construction ventures, guiding the company to its 1999 listing on Bursa Malaysia through AZRB.
Under his leadership, AZRB became a major player in Malaysia's commercial construction, infrastructure, and public projects. The group was involved in several major projects including Jambatan Putra in Kuantan, Pintasan Saloma in KL, Universiti Teknologi Petronas and the Sultan Ahmad Shah Medical Centre in Pahang among others.
Wan Zaki served as AZRB's executive chairman and later as executive vice chairman before retiring in July 2021 to become group advisor.
His legacy continues through AZRB's significant contributions to Malaysia's construction industry.
Aside from construction and engineering, the group is also involved in oil and gas, property, concessions and plantations.
