KUALA LUMPUR: Datasonic Group Bhd's share price jumped 4.7 per cent or as high as 44 sen today after confirming that it is in negotiations with the Home Ministry with regard to the supply of Malaysian passports.
Datasonic's share price was 1.2 per cent higher earlier at 43.5 sen a share, giving it a market capitalisation of RM1.3 billion.
In response to a query from Bursa Malaysia Securities, the company said details of the contract have not been finalised.
Bursa Malaysia Securities's query sought clarification from the company on an article in a business weekly entitled "Datasonic finally secures new contract for Malaysian passports, say sources".
"Due to confidentiality of the matters, the company is unable to disclose further details," it said in its filing with the bourse.
On Saturday a business weekly quotig sources, reported that the Home Ministry is believed to have awarded Datasonic a new five-year contract for the supply of Malaysian passports.
The report said the contract requires Datasonic to supply materials required for three million Malaysian passports annually for five years.
It also said that the group is likely to be paid a fee of between RM100 and RM115 per copy.
