MARKET PULSE PM JAN 9, 2025 [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: News on stock, crypto and ringgit moves.

Bursa Malaysia extended its decline for a second consecutive day as investor sentiment continued to be weighed by rising external risks.

The key 30-stock index barely managed to stay above the 1,600 level.

The sell-off in FBM KLCI components stocks was mainly concentrated in data centre-related stocks, triggered by US President Joe Biden's announcement of additional restrictions on the export of AI chips.

The ringgit, meanwhile, fell against the greenback today to 4.503.

In the crypto market, Bitcoin fell to RM423,307 after strong US economic data indicated a robust economy, lowering expectations for Federal Reserve rate cuts.

Ethereum traded lower at RM15,035, while Solana dropped to RM869.

That's it for Market Pulse.
