Association seeks to build dynamic branding network

KUALA LUMPUR: The Branding Association of Malaysia (BAM) has called for stronger support from government agencies to elevate Malaysia's brand presence on the global stage.

BAM president Datin Winnie Loo said the association aimed to build a vibrant network of 1,000 dynamic and emerging brands.

BAM recently hosted the inaugural "Brand Legend Awards" at Sunway Resort Hotel, honouring seasoned business icons and the next wave of rising brands.

The event gathered industry leaders, innovators and community stakeholders to celebrate exceptional businesses in two categories: Brand Legend and Emerging Legend.

The awards highlighted brands that have set the standard for excellence in Malaysia's business scene as well as those with immense potential to become future legends.

The theme, "Larger than Life", captured the spirit of the evening, celebrating the extraordinary journeys of businesses that have emerged as symbols of resilience, innovation and endurance.

"We are fortunate to have the support of organisations like the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation and SME Corporation Malaysia. I believe all these agencies need to come together to support an association like ours as we're representing the nation's brands.

"As the branding association, we are always on the lookout for more Malaysian brands to join us. Our goal is to  grow collectively, with a thriving network of 1,000-strong, young brands. That's why we introduced the 'Rising Star' category," she told Business Times in an interview.

Loo emphasised that for brands to  sustain their success, founders must be committed, and have a strong vision and mission for companies.

"Many begin without being a brand, but with the hope of becoming one. However, to truly become a brand, founders must take action.

"Starting a company is easy, but sustainability is the real challenge. As a founder, you will face problems, so perseverance is key.

"The first three years are the toughest. If you can push through those years, you are more likely to succeed in the fourth and fifth years," she said.

Founded in 2000, BAM is focused on highlighting the significance of branding as a vital factor in business growth and competitiveness in the country.

With initiatives like BAM Academy and the #webrandmalaysia  campaign, BAM is dedicated to empowering brands and enhancing Malaysia's branding presence on the global stage.
