The 1.5T Executive will go for RM84,800, the 1.5T Premium at RM93,200, and finally the 1.5TGDi Flagship at RM103,300.

Prices are On-The-Road without insurance, for Peninsula Malaysia only, and valid until Dec 31 with the present Sales Tax Exemption.

Proton is also offering five packages with the purchase of the X50 which includes a five-year warranty with unlimited mileage, five-year data package of 1GB per-month, five times free labour service (limited to the first 30,000 bookings by Dec 31), interest rates from 2.22 per cent PA, and Proton's Insurance Program.

The insurance program includes: Waiver of Betterment Costs up to 10 years, Agreed Value Coverage up to 12 years, Key Care Cover up to RM1,000, Flood Relieve Allowance up to RM1,000, All Driver Coverage, and Personal Accident up to RM15,000

According to Proton chairman Datuk Seri Syed Faisal Albar, with the help from vendors and through its technical offerings and achievements, the X50 alone can and will account for an annual purchase value of RM1.8 billion from Proton.

"It is clear that car manufacturers (local) do our part to help grow the nation's economy," he said during the B-class compact sport utility vehicle's (SUV) virtual launch.

Largely similar to the Geely Binyue or Coolray, the locally-assembled (at Proton's Tanjung Malim plant) front-wheel drive X50 has more than 400 unique components and localisation to give the SUV its own personality.

Between the four available variants, the Standard has four SRS airbags, Full LED headlamps, 17-inch alloy wheels, fabric seats, rear air-conditioner vents, 8-inch infotainment head unit, and reverse camera.

Executive adds an additional two SRS airbags (making it six), leather wrap steering wheel, auto headlamps, front fog lamps, and leatherette seats.

Premium tops the Executive with tyre pressure monitoring system, 18-inch alloy wheels, driver power seat, 10-inch infotainment head unit, and 360 camera.

The three variants come with a 1.5 litre three-cylinder turbocharged with multi-point fuel injection (1.5T PFI) paired to a seven-speed wet dual-clutch automatic transmission.

From 1,500 to 4,000 rpm it has an output of 150 PS (or 147 hp) at 5,500 rpm and 226 Nm.

Lastly the Flagship is the only one with a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder turbo direct-injection engine with seven-speed wet DCT, Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), dual trim interior, and panoramic sunroof. It has a performance output of 177PS and 255Nm, allowing it to achieve 0-100kmh in 7.9 seconds.

They all have three drive modes – Normal, Eco and Sport. Manual mode is avilable though the SUV has no paddle shifters.

The major draw of the X50 over the X70 are its many safety features and ADAS - which include Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning systems, Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking, and Pedestrian Detection.

It has 5-star safety Asean NCAP rating (New Car Assessment Programme for Southeast Asian Countries) and comes with N95 cabin filter.

Prior to the price announcement, Proton Holdings Bhd said the X50 had already received 20,000 bookings with a RM500 booking cost.
