KUALA LUMPUR: In conjunction with global Safer Internet Day (SID) 2019 which kicked off on Feb 5, TikTok, short-form mobile videos, launched its #BetterMeBetterInternet campaign in partnership with some local non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to raise awareness on online safety with a focus on children and underserved communities.
Donny Eryastha, Head of Public Policy (Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines) at TikTok said that the two weeks campaign is one of the few ways to show TikTok’s commitment to online safety.
“At TikTok, we are committed to building a global community that empowers everyone to be a creator to share moments that matter. While this is a privilege for us, our priority is to foster a platform that thrives on positivity, which is why we have been continually innovating on policies, tools and resources that make TikTok a safe place,” said Eryastha.
As part of its efforts, TikTok has put in place protective measures by combining content moderation technology with a robust human moderation team based in over 20 countries and regions, covering 36 languages.
The #BetterMeBetterInternet global awareness campaign includes in-app safety quiz as one way for TikTok to deliver online safety tips to its users. TikTok also introduces new customised sticker designs with the use of positive hashtags such as #likes, #Respect, #Positivity, #Creativity, #Security.
For awareness campaign in Malaysia, TikTok Malaysia with P.S. The Children Malaysia, Yayasan Generasi Gemilang and Majlis Kebajikan Kanak-kanak Malaysia join forces for a panel discussion entitled “Building safe digital environment for Malaysian creative communities” to show the platform’s continued commitment in driving awareness and ensuring online safety for its users in Malaysia.
