KUALA LUMPUR: Meraque Services Sdn Bhd (Meraque) and Malaysian Air Youth Club have teamed up to foster talents for the booming drone industry in Malaysia.
For a start, a two-day career development programme was organised, called the Malaysian Young Generation Drone Technology Career Development Program. The programme commenced on Feb 24 with Meraque aiming to mould 500 youths with the necessary skill-set by 2023.
Meraque's chief executive officer, Md Razalee Ismail said "With Malaysia's dream to become a major player in the global drone industry as a potential drone hub in Asean, there is a growing need for skilled workers in the drone sector. This program will pioneer human capital development in technology and manufacturing industries for local young talent in Tenggara," he said.
He added that the company's partner and government's aid will help equip, support, and enhance youth's capabilities via innovative drone courses and new-age skills which will prepare them for the drone space employment opportunities locally and abroad.
It also featured a drone exhibition and agro-drone demo with other corporate collaborators and Government-Linked Companies included such as Boustead Holdings, Felcra, Kejora, FGV, Sime Darby, Edotco, MRCB, and DBKL.
The programme was officiated by Science, Technology, and Innovation minister, Datuk Sri Dr Adham Baba who shared the importance of the initiative for the fourth Industrial Revolution.
Based on the Drone Market Report 2021-2026, the drone industry is on the rise with the drone market forecasted to achieve US$41.3 billion in 2026.
The Malaysian government has also launched Area 57, which is a drone development zone in Technology Park Malaysia in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur and other drone development areas include Felda Mempaga in Pahang, Drone and Robotic Iskandar in Johor, and Urban Delivery Drone in Cyberjaya.
