SINGER Wany Hasrita is thankful to have found fame in a short time.
First known among Netizens through the videos she uploaded on the social-music making app, Smule, Wany made a big splash after FMC Music signed her up last year and released her debut single, Menahan Rindu.
The song, composed and written by Ibnu and Gouffran, had an accompanying music video uploaded late last year to YouTube, which has garnered more than 15 million views.
“While it’s a good thing to be welcomed by music fans, it’s also made
me apprehensive about several things,” said the 25-year-old singer at the recording of TV3’s Muzik Muzik Raya 2017 at the Putrajaya Marriot
Hotel in Sepang.
The artiste, whose full name is Nurshazwany Hasrita Hasbullah, said there would be extra pressure to top her well-received debut single now.
Her latest number, Disana Cinta Disini Rindu, a duet with fellow aspiring singer Tajul Ariff Noor, 19, from the same recording label, became a hit after being released a little over a month ago. Its music video has so far been viewed more than nine million times on YouTube.
“When we heard the demo for it, the song was very much like a tune from the 1980s or 1990s and after discussing with our arranger, both Tajul and I took the initiative to modernise it a bit so that it’d still sound relevant to current music listeners,” said Wany of the song, which was composed and written by Patrick Kamis who had composed songs for Siti Sarah Raisuddin, Siti Nordiana and Achik (of the band Spin), Elyana, Syura and Rahmat (of Ekamatra) in the 1990s.
“I’m glad that the duet turned out well and I hope fans will continue to support me,” said Wany, who completed her degree in Medical Science at Management and Science University in Shah Alam, Selangor, last February.
Besides concentrating on her new career, Wany also said she would further her studies next year.
“If possible, I want to excel in both fields,” said Wany, adding she had received an invitation to sing at Seri Perdana on the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
