KUALA LUMPUR: Ticket prices for films are getting more expensive these days, and viewers with lower incomes are unable to catch their favourite actors’ newest work on the big screen.
Award-winning actor Beto Kusyairy is worried that this will result in more cinemagoers watching films online, and jeopardising local actors’ “rice bowls” in the process.
The concerned star of films as Bisik Pada Langit, Istanbul Aku Datang and CEO recently tweeted: “Oh, my God! Some ticket prices are as high as RM21! If we include a viewer’s food and drinks, and car park, that’ll easily amount to RM60 or RM70!”
Beto added that it was grossly unfair for cinemagoers from smaller towns and the suburbs as many eagerly waited to watch the latest local titles, yet got “turned back” by skyrocketing ticket prices.
"It'll be good for cineplexes to give 20 to 30 per cent discounts for local films. That’ll encourage viewers to support our film industry, and stay clear from viewing online or worse, getting involved in the menace of digital piracy."
