KOTA BARU: Celebrated Kelantan dikir barat singer Nordin Yusoff, better known as Megat Nordin, died at his father's house in Kampung Kenali here today from liver cancer. He was 56.
His family members, including wife Khorunnisa Madiyoh, 48, were by his side when he died at about 11.30am.
Megat was diagnosed with liver cancer in August last year.
"My husband had been bedridden for several days before his death," Khorunnisa said, adding that he will be buried at a village cemetery later today.
Meanwhile, the Dikir Barat Association's representative Mohamed Aswady Adenan said its members were shocked over the news.
"We visited him last week and he looked healthy then," he said.
Megat, who gained prominence in the 1980s, is best known for the dikir barat songs Tinggalah Kasih and Hidup Usia Remaja.
