AFTER an 11-year wait, fans of legendary rock band Search, will soon be able to get hold of the band’s 12th and latest studio album, Katharsis.
Available on Nov 22, it is likely to be the last studio album for its members — lead singer Amy (Suhaimi Abdul Rahman), bassist Nasir Daud and guitarists Kid (Hamzah Mohd Taib) and Din (Noordin Mohd Taib).
“We will continue to perform as a band for many more years to come. It’s just that when it comes to producing a studio album, I don’t think age is on our side since it takes a lot of time and energy.
“We took 11 long years to get Katharsis ready, we don’t think another one is possible a decade from now,” said Amy at the launch of the album in Hard Rock Cafe here recently.
Nasir said: “Since it’s our last, we’ve decided to work with the best — our producer is none other than Datuk M. Nasir, who was delighted to ‘return’ after 22 years!”
The music sifu, who last produced Search’s 1995 album Gema Di Timur Jauh, composed five tracks in Katharsis. The other five were composed by the band members.
“As for the lyricists, there’s
S. Amin Shahab, Budi Hekayat and Usop, besides M. Nasir and the four of us,” said Amy.
Nasir said the album title was chosen by them after a discussion with M. Nasir.
“Katharsis refers to the process of cleansing and renewal, and that is relevant for us after going through some difficulties last year.”
Its first single, Sidang Kangaroo, is being played on radio stations. Amy said it was about judgemental people, and was a universal message against such “toxic” individuals.
“I’m turning 60 next year, and Katharsis is as good as my birthday present, to be shared with fans. We see a lot of similarities here with our 1989 album Fenomena, which had Isabella as its major single, but Katharsis utilises state-of-the-art studio technology for a crisper sound,” said Amy.
The music videos for Sidang Kangaroo and the album’s second single, Nama Yang Kau Lupa, will be released next week.
Amy, Nasir, Din and Kid will perform at Konsert Gegaran, organised by DCode Dunia Juara at Bazarena in Shah Alam, on Dec 2.
The other acts are Bunkface, Nidji, Hujan and Oh Chentaku.
