Search continues for missing 13-year-old boy in Ketereh canal

BACHOK: The Search and Rescue (SAR) operation to locate the 13-year-old boy who went missing while bathing in an irrigation canal at Kampung Pangkal Kalong, Ketereh yesterday, continued this morning.

Ketereh Fire and Rescue operation commander Hamdam Mamat said the SAR operation began at 8am, involving more than 10 firemen.

He said they were assisted by the police and villagers.

"Since yesterday, the SAR team has covered an area about 200m in radius from the scene where the boy was reported missing.

"As of 10.30am today, we have yet to find him," he said.

The boy identified as Muhammad Aqif Aisar Azrie Faisal was bathing in the canal with three friends when the incident happened about 4.30pm.

According to one of his friend, they were bathing near the canal gate when the water current suddenly surged and they almost drowned.

Aqif tried to cling to one of the boys but failed. He was then swept away by the current.
