KUALA LUMPUR: South Korea's National Forensic Service has revealed the results of its analysis on late actor Kim Joo-hyuk's Mercedes-Benz SUV.
He was driving the vehicle in Seoul in October last year when it crashed into an apartment wall and flipped over, resulting in his death.
A month later, an autopsy report showed that he had died from cranial fracture, but the cause of the car accident was yet to be determined.
According to a news report by Soompi, the National Forensic Service announced last Tuesday that the vehicle he had been driving was not defective.
The Gangnam Police Station shared a report they received from the National Forensic Service which stated, "There is no evidence of vehicle defects such as rapid acceleration or mechanical malfunctions.
“There was no evidence of the cause being an ineffectiveness of the brakes.”
The National Forensic Service explained that as the car had been severely damaged, they were not able to carry out a normal driving test. The investigation results were determined by checking sense data after connecting or replacing damaged parts, starting the engine, and accelerating.
"It has been concluded that the video of the accident taken by the black box found in Kim Joo-Hyuk’s car did not record any audio data (of the inside of the car).”
Meanwhile, as previously reported, the forensics team found that Kim's cause of death was head injury.
“We didn’t find any signs of myocardial infarction (heart attack), and our toxicology test only showed a small amount of antihistamine.
"No traces of alcohol or toxins were detected, and our heart examinations didn’t show any signs of coronary artery damage, abnormal blood vessels, or inflammation.”
The South Korean police are reportedly planning to request additional medical judgement regarding the cause of Kim’s death, taking into consideration autopsy results and the investigation of his vehicle.
