KUALA LUMPUR: Powerhouse singer Dayang Nurfaizah had a pleasant surprise when two of her ballads, Di Pintu Syurga and Lelaki Teragung, were listed in the Top 10 most purchased songs on iTunes Indonesia.
The 36-year-old winner of Anugerah Juara Lagu’s Best Vocal award three times in a row was naturally over the moon after discovering the news from her fans in the neighbouring republic.
In a news report by Harian Metro yesterday, the petite Sarawakian said: “I didn’t know about this initially. Honestly, I couldn’t believe it since even representatives from the record company had not shared anything about it to me earlier on.”
Dayang added that an Indonesian fan had been introduced to her singing after watching an uploaded video clip on YouTube of her performance at the AJL.
“Recently when the songs got on to the most purchased list, this person told me that the two songs, including another song of mine Tak Pernah Menyerah, were available for purchase on iTunes,” she said.
Although Dayang explained that she wasn’t privy to the mechanics of the sales in a foreign country, she was glad that her work was making an impact.
“It was marketed later than compared to Malaysia but I’m really grateful that listeners over there have reacted positively to my songs,” she said.
Dayang’s latest album, a self-titled release, came out in April last year. Since then it had already sold over 5,000 units and has been repressed three times.
As to her sales in the digital domain, the singer said that her representatives have yet to obtain any information from the record company. Her album is also available on the vinyl format.
