Melodious love with Fazura at her recent showcase

SOME may doubt her singing ability but artiste Nur Fazura Sharifuddin has proven to her critics that with sheer determination and a positive attitude, she too has what it takes to catapult her singing career to success.

Her self-titled debut album released Nov 3, last year, has so far sold more than 6,000 units and has been streamed over five million times.

“This is wonderful news. I didn’t expect the album to do so well in sales, considering that this is my first full album,” said the singer and actress.

The 34-year-old, looking radiant, shared this with reporters after her recent showcase held at the Clarke Ballroom, Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur.

At the showcase presented by ONEMUSIC (an app which allows fans to get active on social media as well as listen to streamed music), Fazura serenaded some 400 fans and invited guests with all nine songs from her album.

The album consists of songs she had released as singles, beginning with her debut track, Sayangi Dirimu, which was released back in 2014.

Sayangi Dirimu was composed by Damian Mikhail with lyrics by Shah Shamsiri. Fazura also sang Lalu, Bisa Apa, Hanya Tuhan Yang Tahu and Bangun. Fazura also sang Nothing Like Pag-Ibig (a song Fazura had recorded with Filipino Jason), with the local band Back2Basixx.

Fazura, whose second wedding reception had been held the week prior to the showcase, also performed a duet, of the song Cinderella with her husband, popular actor Fattah Amin. The song is the soundtrack for last year’s hit drama series, Hero Seorang Cinderella.

“Both of us were so nervous about performing the song. Fattah had arrived from Johor Baru just the night before but was sporting enough to be part of this special day for me,” said Fazura, who also performed Cinta Langka with singer-songwriter Aizat Amdan.

The song had originally been performed by Fazura with Aria Dinata, lead vocalist of popular Indonesian band Samsons, who wrote the song.

SHOW COMPASSION

Her favourite Hanya Tuhan Yang Tahu was also part of the repertoire.

“It’s a sad love story. Their relationship didn’t last. While one has moved on, the other cannot quite get over the break-up,” said Fazura.

Fazura admitted that most of her songs in the album are about love and relationships.

“I want to celebrate love. In the real world, it is very easy to create negativity, so I choose to spread love. What’s the point of creating hatred, when the opposite can bring happiness?

“The idea is to spread the message that we need to be compassionate to our fellow humans.”
