KUALA LUMPUR: Evergreen singer Nora Ariffin has lamented that radio stations seem to be neglecting the hits of veteran artistes these days.
In an Instagram post two days ago, the singer whose best known songs include Di Persimpangan Dilema and Ada Dalam Tiada said on Instagram that veteran singers ought to have their songs played on the airwaves for a certain period weekly, especially their newly-released singles.
She said: “Newcomers, with or without talent, have strong platforms and opportunities are always there for them — they are all over the radio and television.
“But what’s happened to we senior artistes? Don’t we deserve a good platform to perform, too? Many of us have worked hard for more than three decades and are still relevant to the industry.
“Wouldn’t it be good if radio and television stations, as well as event organisers, give us some space to shine?
“Many of us have new singles, but don’t receive airplay, as if we aren’t qualified for the playlists.
Can’t we just have one slot a week?
“One day, every singer will become a veteran. This should be food for thought.”
Nora’s post came with a news article about her well-received performance in the Voices Of Ladies concert at Panggung Anniversari, Taman Botani Perdana, Kuala Lumpur on Aug 11.
The concert which also featured Ella, Aishah, Noraniza Idris, Yuka Kharisma and Elda Susanti was accompanied by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall Orchestra and was attended by more than 3,000 people.
Nora and Aishah both received standing ovations from the crowd.
Netizens gave their strong support to Nora. One of them, Shah, said: “Kak Nora and Kak Aishah are truly the best.”
“There are many great singers amongst the veterans, such as Kak Nora. They remain good as ever and they should be given a lot more publicity and opportunities than they currently have,” said Shafiq.
“Old is gold. Great music comes from the seniors,” said Mohammad Ariff.
“Quality should always come first, before popularity. Singers who are experienced and truly talented should be given more publicity than those who are popular or trendy,” said Zaky.
