#Showbiz: Excessive rent makes Khadijah closes Shah Alam branch

KUALA LUMPUR: Evergreen singer Datuk Khadijah Ibrahim has sadly announced that the curtain has fallen on the Shah Alam branch of her restaurant Khadijah’s Kitchen.

The two-year-old restaurant had to close its doors late last year because of excessively high rent.

“It was just too much for me to pay the premise owners RM23,000 in rent every month. It didn’t make sense, as I could open six more branches of Khadijah’s Kitchen with that amount of money,” she said in a news report yesterday.

Khadijah said that while her fans and friends were saddened to see the Shah Alam restaurant close, they understood that this was unavoidable.

“I’m happy that Khadijah’s Kitchen in Jalan Bukit, Petaling Jaya is still going strong, having been in business for 12 years. This is the most famous branch and it’s very popular with customers from the Klang Valley and beyond,” she said.

Managed by her daughter Siti Hajar Mohd Rashid, Khadijah would come up with traditional Malay recipes for the menu from time to time.

“We’ll soon be coming up with a special breakfast menu, and most likely it will be out early next month,” she said.

“It’ll be called the KT Breakfast and it’ll have lots of breakfast meals I enjoyed during my childhood days in Singapore.”

Khadijah’s Kitchen also has a branch in Danau Kota, Setapak.
